Let the poetry in

Yesterday, the 2 weeks workshop with Ian Smith & Mischief Là-Bas at La Bellone ended. Already several persons amongst the group talked about going on with performances in Brussels. Why was it so sad to split up the workshop group? Was it that during these 2 weeks, we were all willing to share, to work together and to experiment what Ian proposed us? Was it that we had soooo much fun - and now just want to have more? All this is true, but can be explained by a single reason: whether we wanted it or not, we became a gang! The power of the group for what concerns street performances is a lesson I will never forget. We also explored a lot of ways of working that will help me to perfect my own creative tools: being visual, keeping things simple, being just silly sometimes, bringing poetry into public spaces, gently playing with authority figures, being responsible when interacting with the public and playing with its fantasies… Thank you Ian, and Angie, Paddy and Andrew, to have shared your know-how so generously with us. Thank you for proving us that the magic of poetry can just happen whenever you, as a gang, decide to let it happen. It makes me happy to know that I can change the world – even if only for a few minutes, even if only in a street at a time. Yes, this is the great news: WE CAN ACTUALLY CHANGE THE WORLD!
